Hello Brian, I have that cassette deck, I can tell you what that knob is for. It doesn't work with the USB interface. That knob, controls the levels of the RCA analog output jacks. Some preamps and receivers, are more sensitive then others. This control knob, compensates for that. Hope this helps.

High Brian, All depending on the preamp and or receiver, you will hear it get louder or softer when you turn the knob. Some receivers and preamps won't let you hear the difference, so keep this in mind whenever you decide to hook it up to a home stereo system. My best regards. John. - Orig
