When in Winamp and focus is on the main window, you can
adjust the balance with the right and left arrow keys.
If you're up for editing the winamp.ini file, look for the
line pan equals and make the number zero, that is the number
zero not the word zero.

I'm connecting the tape output from my stereo receiver to the line in on my
sound card--in fact, I've tried several sound cards.
When I put the plug in, it effects the volume of the receiver lowering it
noticably. When the computer is turned off, the volume on the stereo is
low
There are also short cut keys to adjust balance.
Control alt and k will put the balance in the centre
Control alt h will go full left
Control alt ; will go full right
Control alt j and l will go half way to their respective sides.
