That's actually a VERY DANGEROUS Windows default.

Hi Marty, thanks I had to go into folder options and fix the known file types thing in
the view menu. I couldn't find the extensions. I don't know how that got turned off or
if it was a dell thing from the factory.

Hi Jerry, I knew what you meant. my problem was that the known file types were hidden
so I went in and fixed that in the folder options. I don't know how that got turned on
unless that was a dell thing.

Hi, Gary, you can also open up note pad, and from the file menu choose
open, then choose all files from the combo box, navigate to the .m3u
file, and tab to open, and press enter, and you can see what a .m3u
file looks like. Essentially, all it is, is a .txt file with an url,
which points to eithe
I meant you can change the M3U to txt. Trying to open an MP3 file with
a text editor doesn't have any meaning.

Gary! You can use "Open With" or get focus on the file name, press F2
and edit the name just as you would a piece of text in Notepad. So you can
change the MP3 to txt. When you're finished editing just tap enter.

Hi Marty. Actually, an m3u file *can* be on your computer, it can be a
regular winamp playlist, in addition to a streaming file. So m3u files can
be for both streaming and local mp3 files on your computer.
Basically it's just a text file that helps Winamp reference a file more
quickly. i don't t
Hi, Steve, a .m3u file is a streaming file, in other words, the file
it's pointing toward is not on your pc, but on another computer, and
you're streaming that file.

Steve! If you open the M3U with Notepad or some other text editor
you'll see that it's a list of titles and paths to MP3 files on your
computer. It's a play list. It doesn't mean anything without those MP3s
and the paths. Once you put the M3U and MP3s on another machine it probably

An m3u file is a text file pointing to an address or addresses where audio is
heard. It cannot be played on any mp3 player.

Hi, this is Steve, still learning, I have audio files on my PC with m3u
instead of MP3. What is the difference. They both play with Winamp. Would a
m3u file play on a MP3 player? Thank you.
