Sometimes devices that have two RCA outputs for stereo will send both
the left and right signals through one or other of the outputs if a cable is
attached to only one of the pair. This could be the left or right, I don't
think there's a standard and I don't know if TV's do this.

You can do said thing, it's all about the kind of cable you get. BTW, I
don't think that TV's generally have mono RCA, they're generally stereo but
in a pare, but I digress. Suffice it to say, if it does do that, what a
wierd TV!
