Try to use the up and down arrow keys.
They raise the volume on my pc.

Joanne, to answer your first question, I don't use the media player
classic hardly at all. Sure it's there in place of real player, and I got
rid of real player because of the icon that appeared in the system tray that
I had to disable every time I started the machine.
