I just priced an iPad Pro 128GB version with Wi-Fi - no facility for cellular
data - and in Australian dollars its available for $1400 so probably halve that

To be fair I can’t compare the Mini 4 with any other of the devices you’ve
mentioned though I’m prepared to bet that you’re probably right on the ball,
the Mini 4 isn’t special but its a damn sight better than the iPad III was when
I heard that thing over 2 years ago.

Have you heard the mini 2 with retina display? I have one of those, and
the sound is ok, but not special. Kindle fire hd 7 of about the same
vintage has better sound IMHO. My husband's HTC cell phone has better
sound, sadly. But I haven't heard the mini 4.
