I was expecting to find something a little cheaper and not quite as good

the microphone is in the microphone boom itself, so when you put the boom in
the up position it's muted, and unmuted when you bring it close.
Do you have a particular model I can look for?
What you say about Senheiser is absolutely right, have a couple of them myself.
