I am sure Sound Forge will do what you want, but Audacity should have no
problem doing that too, and Audacity is free. On the other hand, the Studio
version of Sound Forge will cost somewhere between $50 and $100. I have not
seen a recent price on Sound Forge Studio, but the last I knew it was

have you tried using the [ and ] keys during playback to mark the start and end
of the selection?
Could you be more specific about what you're getting stuck on?

I use goldwave to do my file splitting, never have figured it out in
audacity. and it's 50 bucks, but that's a one time fee, and I know
audacity is free, I just happen to use goldwave on a daily basis so it
was worth that fee for me. just my two cents.
