As I recall..some of the talking book machines used the "diamond" needles;
some of them used the "Safire" needles; usually..I found that the diamond
needles sounded the best! The "Safire" ones seemed to make the records
sound scratchy!

Hello Garry and all others,
In the early 1960's, they introduced transistor record players that had a
verriple speed control knob on them.
If you sat the mane speed lever to 33 and a third, all you had to do was
turn that knob up as high as it would go.
It would play 78 records at that setting.
Hello Tom,
I did do that.
Just a lady that calls herself my "reader adviser" told me via email, the
LNS player won't play any other files.
This is misinformation.
You and I and other blind people that have that machine, knows that this
isn't true.
I got it to play MP3 music files almost right
I have found adobe 1.5, soundforge9.0E or cooledit not to work. I did get
sornar8 to work.

It was a simple thing to lighten up the tone arm

I know I did it, and it didn't ruin anything, and I know a lot of other
people did too, and I never once heard anyone remarking that it didn't play

Well, technically I think every time you played a record, no matter how
nice the turntable and cartridge was, you were damaging the record. I
also think your typical audiophile would cringe if they heard you were
playing a record with a talking books turntable, and I'm pretty certain
they'd say
Hi again.
I forgot to mention that I'd put music cassettes in my library player and
flip the track selector switch so it played the tape backwards. I heard
some interesting lyrics to songs that way.

Well John..in that case, a whole bunch of us should be locked up, for..at
least at the School For The Blind that I attended, people did that sort of
thing on a regular basis..and I don't know that it did any major damage to
records; I did it myself!

In the case of the record players what they should have said is that the
talkingbook player's needle could harm the record because the tone arm is so
heavy.
