One option would be to get a Sansa e200 series from
accessibleelectronics.com. These are the V1 versions and they come with
Rockbox preloaded. Of course, you could save a few dollars getting one from
eBay, but you'll need to make sure it's the V1 version.

device driver is set to primary sound driver
the slider is set to 100 percent
continuous stream checkbox is unchecked
for the digital processor I have the odcast.dll check for that's what I use
for my server
use mixer is checked
buffer size is 500
CPU engine is 44100

Thanks, that's one of the deciding factors. It's easy for me to dump
folders on a rockbox enabled player since my whole audio library is
organized by folder instead of play lists.
I don't care much for play lists, but that's a personal preference based
around the way I like to organize my files.
