Once you've applied a given effect and saved the file, you've physically
altered the sound. Most effects are pretty much permanent.

I would like to remove an effect that was assigned to a sound file using
Goldwave. Is there a way to see what effects are assigned to a file and/or
a way to remove the effects? I am not referring to the undo feature, but
rather how to modify a file when undo is not an option (after the file has

I'm not putting down your choices, but I am curious. What is so wonderful
about the layout in 4.26 that's worth sacrificing all the advantages in
version 5?

I know that our local commercial stations are using sound forge. I suppose
that they look at sound forge as being the standard. .

One can do very broadcast-quality programs using nothing but a computer, a
microphone and Gold Wave. I'm not diminishing Soudn Forge at all, it's
clearly a wonderful program. But I wouldn't diminish Gold Wave either.

Unfortunately, what I suspected is indeed the case. Let's say you
want to delete a six-second section beginning at 5 minutes into your
sound file. You set the markers, but want to preview to see what the
finished product will sound like. If you use the unselected setting

Hi Dean, that feature is called user play and is shift F4. To make it
work, you need to set user play to unselected in the play preferences. I
am still using version 4.26, as I like the layout better than in the 5X
versions, but I would think that it would work the same in the newer
versions! If

Hi,
Version 6 and above is very good about not doing that any more from what I
have been told.

Hi,
I use it happily but declined the proprietary driver and use
my sound card's mixer. It works very well, but then, so does replay a v!

Bruce,
I have heard absolutely nothing negative about gold wave. If anything the 50

I think for starters I just might go with it. Is it possible to download a
trial version, and if so where would I find it?

I must say, that I find that total recorders sound drivers tend to try and
take over from existing ones and have given me a lot of problems in the
past, so personally I wouldn't touch that program.

Which is easier is very much a subjective thing. I personally, having
tried them both, find editing in Gold Wave to be much easier, but I know
that some prefer Sound Forge.

Gold wave is very reasonable in price. I think that I would like to down
load a trial or demo version of sound forge in order to try it out. Does
anyone on the list know of a website where I can download a demo version of
sound forge?

Goldwave is about $50.00 or so. personally, I would save the money and buy
Soundforge, for I believe editing is so much easier with it than Goldwave. I
haven't bought soundforge for quite a few years, so the studio streamlined

Hi,
The most likely reason you are loosing audio when you plug the device in is
that it's taking over as default audio on the PC. Try plugging your
speakers in to the output of the device after plugging it in to your USB
port..
Also I haven't had a lot of luck on some systems in the past us
Daren,
I wonder do you have Total Recorder it would work much easier that way I
think than Goldwave. Total Recorder is more set up for that sort of audio.
Then you could pull it in to Goldwave and edit it if you like?

What should I expect to pay for a sound forge package?
I have been editing audio tape for years, and now think that I should be
making the transition over to electronic editing.
I have a good idea as to what computering editing is all about, as I have

Sound Forge has a great keystroke which lets you hear a couple
