I'm suddenly getting an error message of "Could not open Wave/Audio
device" when trying to play any MP3 file.
I'm using both MP3 Direct Cut version 2.01 and 1.39. This is
occurring with MP3 files I've previously been able to open and edit.

I suppose the IRiver mp3 player/recorders won't really cut it because
editing anything compressed and then recompressing will likely give less
than optimal sound. Since I don't like MS media player that much, if I
convert anything for listening that was in that format, it goes to wave
files. I
if you really want to purchase a recorder and hold on to it for a few years,
the Edirol R1 is the way to go. I've gotten my hands on one finally and
it's briliant. However, it's semi-large, so maybe waiting for the R09 might
be the ticket.

I have pretty good speakers at home, it was better quality when I first got
it than it is now on the music. Jonathan's stream really sounds a lot better
than XM right now on my computer speakers that I never thought could deliver
as much quality.
