is there really no answer to this? Device detection has taken a real
hit from madwifi to ath5k, and since the latter is the default in
trunk, I woul have thought there is some way forward or workaround. No
thoughts at all?

default homefolder of tor is /var/lib/tor (tor creates only files in this
folder) so the homedir in /etc/passwd should be changed to that directory too.
And as every program creates a pid in /var/
