I am facing the same issue on openssl-1.0.1e
Is there any workaround for it ?

I'm trying to get the latest build 0.9.8d to work on solaris - but I keep
getting the error message when used with CURL
* error:140943FC:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert bad record mac
and if I use the openssl application
./openssl s_client -connect www.google.com:443 -state
