update to b134 from 2009.06 doesn't work). I installed the compilers, and

It's also the point of using a boot environment, however upgrading the
zpool or zfs version will render the pool unreadable to the old
Sheer speculation. Just thought that something potentially so explosive
(before Google's Android came out) yet Sun was not paying any attention, the
reason must be that the JVM used in the installer was a seriously handicapped

I've always wondered ... if one installs the full c/c++ plugins for netbeans,
do you get EXACTLY the same features as sun studio / sun studio express ... or
is there some reason to have a separate installation of sun studio in addition
to netbeans?

I'd recommend not upgrading your zfs and zpool versions and keeping
your b134 boot environment around to make sure you can update to the
next official OpenSolaris rele

You'll have the integrated NWAN solution, ZFS bug fixes, and improvements in
802.11n support.
You can also:
1. Update the NWAN GUI and Java JDK.
2. Update grub.conf as needed.
3. Test installation of NetBeans 6.9 and Glassfish 3.0.1.
You don't need snv_b134 anymore and you can update other ar
Hi Tim,
Sun Studio Express 6/10 is not officially supported on OpenSolaris distros <=
ON snv_b138 due to the installer and few library updates needed. You can use
the 'tarball' to do the basic installation.
The other thing is installing NetBeans 6.9 properly - it comes with NetBeans

Oh, what a hostility! Say "Linux", and you're not an IT guy, but totally enemy!
BTW
It depends on the type of virtualization one needs. If you only need the same
kernel, then lightweight Solaris Zones, AIX WPARs, or FreeBSD Jails will suit
the task at hand.
However, if one needs to run different versions of the kernel or different
versions of the OS (Solaris 8/9/10 or AIX 5.2
Hi,
thank you for the walkthrough. I've a couple of questions.
Can you give me a diskspace requirement summary? How much do the various stages
cost in terms of disk space? And can certain parts be placed on another pool?
My boot devices are very small, 18GB, so diskspace is a scarce resource.
