OpenSolaris on Itanium2 might be an interesting
project to pursue.
Why not start on it and see where it leads??

I prefer to say "a bug was introduced", subtler grammar with a softer

Come on. That's such a small niche market. We're talking obscure here. I should
know, obscure hardware like that (for example the rx Integrity, and

It would be a possibility once OpenSolaris gains

They have already actually, I'm not sure how much progress was made,
but the project was scrapped. If Sun's willing to lawyer a little bit
and see if it's legally possible for them to disclose the code, it may
be a possibility...
Sun types, likelyhood of this happening?

Then somebody introduced a bug in the USCSI code from sd.c
This would not be the first time.

I would be very surprised if Sun put any effort into porting Solaris to
Itanium. This doesn't prevent anyone else from trying though.

Would that be cool? Why, yes it would!
Would it be a justifiable return on investment? No.
Here's the deal:
who's running IA64? Only two firms, sgi and hp.
hp's servers are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to buy j

That's actually the greatest disadvantage of Simics. Other than that,
it's just perfect.

The reliability of Solaris is great. We've got 2 Sun boxes at work, and the
only time we have to shut it down is when there is a power failure and the UPS
batteries are almost empty. Actually that's not quite true - the tape drive on
the E450 died so it had

That's what I thought, but then I clicked "Nevada Community" on
It "rips" the CD in about one second, and the audio files are all empty.

Thanks for the advice, Joerg. I downloaded a later version, built and

As far as I know, SXDE only has the developer tools on the DVD version. As far
as updating SXDE goes, it can update packages fine, but Sun doesn't provide
automated package updates for SXDE or SXCE.
Nevada is the codename for the core of the next version of Sun Solaris (which

Well, ski has
Yes
You can install XP and Linux and other OS on Sun hardware. I have installed
Ubuntu on a Sun AMD Opteron system
You can also install Solaris/Open Solaris on non Sun hardware. I have installed
Open Solaris on Sony hardware.
