Just for the record. It is indeed a hardware problem. OpenOCD works great!
I have yet to play more with it.

Hello all,
I'm new to OpenOCD. POLLUX's JTAG device ID is properly recognized;
however, 'halt' does not work and causes time-outs.
Here is the description of the problem:
H/W: Custom board running POLLUX (ARM926ej-s at 533MHz) with Wiggler
S/W: OpenOCD SVN-r1172 on Linux
