Hi folks
Please make sure you work on a proper Root environment with su.
Meaning run "su -" to become root or use sudo or pfexec to run commands
in root context. su is old... It is not made for GUI apps. If you want
to run an GUI with root (or TUI for that matter) use gksu.

I can confirm this also.
I use midnight commander as root sometimes.
.cache/mc directory will become owned by root.
I use command line options to reset it when needed.
This does not happen when I use Devuan or OpenBSD.
