Ok.. . I am still a bit unclear about what you are trying to accomplish. I am puzzled by your "jail drive" reference. I think you are trying to re-cycle an ssd that was part of another pool earlier. You do not care about preserving any of the information that is still on this ssd, except that

Good point. Ok ... here we go. The system contained two SSD drives for the OI OS, mirrored. The data was kept on a zfs pool called "data" - (yeh, original, I know) - which consisted of three WD green drives. These were previously 2TB's and were later upgraded to 3TBs In about October last ye

Explaining your problem in specific terms would be helpful, (.e.g.: mention the commands you use to demonstrate the problem). "an old system drive seems to have a memory..." is surely a colorful way of describing your issue, but unfortunately does not make it clear what the problem exactly is.

I would like to note that I have a similar issue which has irritated me for some time. My experience trying to clean up has been the same. Nothing seems to work. It would be *really* nice if someone documented in the wiki where ZFS stores such state information and how to edit it. Reg ---
