We've updated some fairly old HP Z400 workstations from OI_151a9 to Hipster
with no discernable hardware issues. The only issues we had were with HP
network printers no longer working, but that had nothing to do with the
hardware.

Libre Office also benefits a bit from the licenses they use. Libreoffice can
integrate OpenOffice changes while OpenOffice cannot do the same thing with
LibreOffice source code. This kind of stacks the deck against OpenOffice to an
extent.

This is more of a Solaris 11 question than an OI question, but perhaps
someone can help out.
I've been trying to move an application from an old Solaris 10 SPARC V440
server to a newer T4 Sparc server running Solaris 11.1. The application
has a libgnomeprintui-2.2 dependency. I have libgnomeprin

Is anyone aware of work or a time line for USB 3 support in illumos? I'm
looking at replacing my laptop and also my home NAS server in the coming
months and lack of USB 3 in illumos/OI is starting to limit my options
especially with regard to the laptop replacement.

I heard about this earlier today. I'm not sure what this will do to our
plans to replace our old Sun Ray 1 and 1Gs with the 3 Plus. Currently
we're running off Solaris 10 on SPARC. I have not tried it yet with OI or
Solaris 11.
Daniel, were there any difficulties getting the SRSS 5 software run
Interesting. I wonder how OI 151a7 would compare to Solaris 11.1 on his older
hardware?
I have Solaris 11.1 installed on one of our servers and have not noticed any of
these issues, but this is a newish Sun-Oracle box with 48 GB RAM and I
installed it from scratch to 11.1 so it's not a good c
I'm also sad to hear that* *Alasdair Lumsden has resigned as lead of the
project. I was greatly heartened when Alasdair first announced the project
and have been using OI ever since the early releases on both my personal
laptop and as my new work desktop (my other work desktop is Solaris
10/SPARC)
Has anyone used OI with a NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card? I'm looking to
pick up a couple of workstations for development work and the options for
graphics card are the Quadro 2000 or the Quadro 5000.

We use use Sun/Solaris Studio 12.2 for our internal application
development IDE but for compiler options within Sun Studio we use gnu
gcc. I've debated comparing the processing speed of gcc built binaries vs
Sun/Oracle compiler builds our our applications but haven't done that yet.

Can we run OI on UltraSPARC? I thought it was still only x86? I have a
number of old SunFire V250s, V240 and V440 that I'd be interested in
keeping going for a while longer yet. I had missed the notice about the
official Solaris 11 not working on UltraSPARC III/IV.

Firefox 7 has been working mostly fine on OI 151 for me. The only issue for
me has been with the java plugin which can sometimes cause a crash, but I've
seen the same problem on some Fedora based Firefox installations as well.

I was also told 8% of the cost of the machine, but the link that the sales
rep sent me to said it was $1000/socket per machine (for non-Sun/Oracle
hardware).

I'd have to agree with Paul. Even though I've been disappointed by quite a
few things they've done since the acquisition, I'm still interested in what
Oracle has to say regarding Solaris 11. I still need to decide on a
post-Sun road map for a number of systems so I'd be interested in hearing
