Joyent got a prebuild go packages (x86_64):
http://pkgsrc.joyent.com/packages/SmartOS/2015Q3/x86_64/lang/go14-1.4.3.tgz
It can be installed by using pkgin. You can bootstrap pkgsrc/pkgin
following this guide:

Why not look at pkgsrc? It is working well on Openindiana/Illumos, and is
supported by Joyent (
http://www.perkin.org.uk/posts/pkgsrc-2012Q3-packages-for-illumos.html).
Joyent even adapt the packages to support SMF on SmartOS.

I have updated the project page, released a new version of the script, and
made a forum. It can all be found at http://www.illumos.org/projects/worsoe.

of a build bulk system, to create binary packages (we also need a
host to provide binaries).
More to come...
Looking forward to hear from people who is interested, and want to help.

I really don't like the idea of running as root if I don't need it, not even
on my home setup. I really don't see the problem in ssh into my regular
user, and from there su into root. Running root as user is dirty, and for
lazy persons.
Cheers,
M
from pkgsrc to IPS could be developed.
Cheers
