Thanks Richard for your advice. This seems to have worked.

Hi,
Can I run Java 7 on OI?
I was going to follow the instructions here:

However it looks like I already have jdk1.6.0_26 installed under /usr/jdk,
and I have no idea how to remove it :(

That's wrong, isn't it?

Hi All,
I guess I'm a "newbie" although I've been using various Linux distro's for
about 10 years.
I recently installed OI 151a on my old laptop (Dell e6400) and now I have a few
questions about installing software.
Firstly, I wanted to have a later version of Firefox installed, and I did t
Thanks for that. I'm actually going to try and teach myself to build it,
because I need to learn. :-) But chances are I'll get stuck and need this!
Just out of interest, if I do use this, how do I install these? Do I just

Hi,
After having used Gnome for years I recently had a look at the LXDE spin of
Fedora and I absolutely loved it.
Is it possible to install LXDE instead of Gnome on OI? And if so does
anyone have any instructions on how to do so?
Thanks!
Andrew.

There's two I use regularly.
The one I can't really live without is a Cisco one - I use vpnc on
Fedora for this.
The other is PPTP.

Hi,
I've come to OI from the Linux world (Fedora), and need to set up a
VPN connection to my office network.
In Linux I have used the Gnome NetworkManager applet to add them.
Where do I go in OI to create a VPN connection? I'm happy to do it
from the command line if necessary, but I don't know w
Just to wrap this up, I now have a beautiful OI desktop running from
my USB stick. Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions.
To summarize the solution for me was to change SATA to ATA in the
BIOS, boot from the live cd, install to the USB stick, and always use
it in the same port.

Hi Reg,
Actually this is what I'd done initially, and the problem was that it
appeared to work but then wouldn't boot on subsequent attempts.
However what I'd done was booted from the live USB image (because of
the SATA issue discussed elsewhere, I couldn't even get the live cd to
boot). So I ha
Hi Reg,
Thanks for the suggestions. Is there instructions anywhere for how to

Many thanks,
Andrew.

Something I forgot to mention.
You're a lot better off booting from a USB disk than setting up dual

Hi,
I have a dell latitude E6400 laptop on which unfortunately I cannot
seem to get OI working, unless I boot it from a USB stick (the Live CD
will not boot). I have a feeling this has something to do with the
hard drive controller, but I am not really enough of a tech head to
figure it out.
So
feasible to install OI on this?
Best regards,
Andrew.

Hi,
I've successfully managed to boot into oi from a USB drive, and would
like to install it to my HDD.
Unfortunately, when I run the installer my hard disk is not listed.
Also if I run GParted, the only device displaying is my USB thumb
drive (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0)
Any ideas what I can do in order
Hi,
Next installment in my quest to get a oi desktop on my Dell e6400...
Finally got it booting via the usb drive. However when connected to

Thanks to Apostolos for the suggestion of installing snv_134. Maybe
