Hi,
I have a setup that uses an Areca ARC-1320 connected to a SAS backplane.
I am seeing these messages every 7 minutes.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks

PC-BSD graphical installer is much better than OI's. Full disk
encryption, even on ZFS file systems, is supported. Also, GPT, ZFS
mirroring are all point and click.

I believe choosing lightweight wm is right way this time - Cinnamon looks great
but it's porting due bunch of dependencies probably requires much more
resources than Gabriele and other XStreamOS guys has, it should be a separate
community project.

Yeah, it's a nice suggestion, but keep in mind that I'm not an OI dev
team member.
What about the other suggestions in the previous email?

I have tried converting to different formats, and that doesn't affect
the bug.
I cannot change the input stream, that format is a given.

This is a nice suggestion. We would welcome OI developers on our bandwagon.
This may happen a bit later, though. First we need some steps to be done:
- finish preparing and cleaning our own illumos, userland, X11, desktopland and
pkg codebases,
ready to be opened as final source gates.
- have new
Yes, running in debug mode seems to make it all work ok, at a slight
cost in speed.

That would seem to suggest a buffering/timing issue.

I'd suggest trying ffmpeg out with different encodings first to see if it's

I've seen endless loop bugs previously while transcoding audio.

Here's a suggestion to OI devs. How about getting together with Sonicle
to explore the possibility of merging OI and XStreamOS server and
desktop?
I think it will be better for the community and for everybody and it
will bring more talent and resources to focus on a distribution instead

Have you considered in your graphical installer the option to choose a ZFS
Mirror for rpool?
What about packaging Chromium/Chrome?
It'd be amazing to get mplayer in there as well.
Thanks!!

I just discovered that with most Ubuntu versions and recent ffmpegs, the
same hang happens there.
So it isn't just OI.
Good. Or bad.. Or something. I will look into it, trussing and whatever.
I mean my ffmpeg is locally compiled and I have the source code for
reference.

Gabriele,
A company-sponsored illumos desktop distribution is very welcome.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. A graphical installer will make it a hit for new users. Users expect
one on a modern desktop distribution. If you don't have a gui installer
yet, check out PC-BSD's graphical installer.
That's Great !
So this will be a Desktop alternative distribution to OI ?
Since It is based on Illumos It could be the "reboot" we are looking for ?
I'm looking forward to try the Desktop version of XtreamOS.

I regularly download ( quite legally, I'm told ) HLS streams from
svtplay.se using ffmpeg and a stream URL obtained by scraping the

This works very well in Ubuntu and Windows on a separate PC.
