I want to open up an XDMCP Session with my OpenIndiana machine from a
remote computer on a local network but it doesn't work. I can only run
multiple-window programs via PuTTy (in Xming for windows) but when I
want to establish a session, all I get is a gray screen.

As its low level, it's likely more in the illumos sphere, so might be worth
asking there about it.

The system dies at the point you would expect Gnome to
fire up - that's the effect of the kernel bug. But you can start OI if
you choose the VESA option, and from there you can switch to the NV
driver which comes with OI, which is what I've done. Illumos are aware
