I forgot to add that when the form is filled (edited), the characters are
displayed correctly. But when the filled form is displayed, many of the
accented characters are missing.

Ah, I guess I didn't realize Okular had several back-ends. Thanks for taking

I keep my PDF tax forms in a TrueCrypt partition for a reason. And
now okular, with no warning, explanation, or permission has just
dumped all of my data in essentially a random location, as far as I'm
concerned.
This is a really r
data into the PDF form - it will save the
data in a second file.
The current implementation does a huge disservice to all users of
Okular. Anyone with a concern for their customers personal data
security would consider this a security issue that just shouldn't
exist.
