The file you sent works fine for me.
Does it crash all the time for you?
Can you run
valgrind okular thefile.mobi
and attach the output? install valgrind first if you don't have it ;)

I did work on something related, but what I did fix was something else (poor
resolution of the lines in presentation mode).
