That is not "exactly" not "step by step", but i bet you have the "From Current
Page" option of the search bar unchecked

Say you have a 150 page pdf and want to find the 15th instance of the word
"the" on page 99 it would seem likely that you could got to page 99 and search
for "the" and find it easily.
