Yes, I've been trying to figure out how it should work for a while.
I had no great idea... I wonder how the mobi backend solved that, after all

This issue reports 3 bugs
1) libepub not supporting container ns (fixed now in trunk)
2) Weird date format, should probably make the backend ignore dates it can't
parse.
3) Lack of UTF8 support, here

The directory to check the attached files has to have a non-latin name (for me
it is for example Проба).

No it is not crucial, but at least Kile hat to change its code for PDF forward

There is not way to differenciate a broken pdf from a non broken one other than
reading the extracted text, so what you ask is impossible.
