Although Ravens have now become regular throughout Long Island, this morning
was the first time I've found one right in a strip mall parking lot. This guy

Yeah, unfortunately, they’ve done this at Heckscher State Park and at Smith’s
Point, Suffolk County Park. The Heckscher puddles are not as good as they used
to be, but they still attract some birds. The ones at Smiths Point are gone.

The Curlew Sandpiper took off with 3 other shore birds heading east out over
the water around 8:55am. It has not yet returned, and may have headed over to
Cupsogue. The tide is Starting to go out.

Also saw a non-breeding plumage Bonaparte's Gull near the island towards the
north end.
I thought the exposed shoreline looked surprisingly good for this early in the
season, and there were lots of early shorebirds using it!

Hardly seems fair to see Razorbills without having to deal with freezing temps
and gale force winds. One observer reported one while surfing!

Watched and heard a single Raven as it flew overhead this morning in Hauppauge,
Suffolk Cty. Just south of New Highway and east of Northern State Parkway,
headed towards Hoyt Farm Park

A single Royal Tern was a flyby over the ocean and a flock of 29 male
Boat-tailed Grackles were hanging around the northern edge of the parking field.

An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was present on Upper Lake in Yaphank around
noon today. A good vantage point is the parking lot behind the Millhouse Inn on
Rte 101.
