My wife and I snuck in one more beach day today at Cupsogue, sitting ocean-side
from 11AM-2PM. I periodically scanned the ocean, binoculars only, during that
time.
The only highlight was a single Caspian Tern heading west. As I followed it, it
dropped something from its mouth and quickly stooped

Highlights: 11 species of Wood Warblers including 4 Cape May Warblers.
Canada Goose - 140+ Reservoir 6:25am
Mallard - 23 Reservoir

The bird just flew across Flatbush Ave heading southwest. It made a brief stop
in some trees near the golf course but appeared to continue.

Birding from the south end to the north on a rising and falling tides. Less
than 100 Shorebirds observed but the diversity was not too bad.
Shorebird highlights include: AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER (6) - possibly one or two

Just a heads up. I saw a White Pelican and a Clay-colored Sparrow at DeKorte
Park in Lyndhurst, NJ in the Meadowlands today so people should be on the look
out for two species in our area:-)

Looking at the photos that are included with Stacy Meyerheinrich's eBird
checklist (link below) I would suggest the observers reconsider the ID. IMO
this bird is very clearly a Dunlin, as proposed in a follow up posting by
Steve Walter.
