When using Quark and DCS files (from Photoshop) , I have problems with
names with norwegian
characters (æøå and also : and / ). Is there a way I can let Samba "see"
these as the same. ("mappint
special characters to different characters).
(I really need to solve this - OPI problems)

There are usually a program with every Mac printer where you can set the
zone of the printer.
These programs usually have names like: HP zoner or something.
This should be quite straightforward, and you would not have to bother
about zones.
Try HP LaserJet Utility 3.4 or something (I have it 1.8
Is there any logging in Netatalk, showing which files beeing saved from macs?
I need to find files (or change them (softlinks seems a good idea))
containing norwegian characthers??

I have two Epson 3000 printers which I want to print to from ONE QUEUE

Now I have two queues, which requires some switching back and fouth.
Windows NT had something called printer pooling. Can this be done on LINUX?
By the way:

I am using a Print Server on LInux to an EPSON 3000 , printing from Macs

When someone is using a "wrong" (too long) Pagesize, or something goes
wrong the printer starts
printing "garbage", using up all the paper.

Is there a way to set up a (Laserwriter) printer (for Macintosh) under

I am using Appleshare over IP, but printing the "old way" (choosing

Is it faster to print with LPD (I have tried to set up this, but the
printjobs just "disapper")

I have a Pentium 266 Linux Box with 4 SQSI (Adaptec 2940) disks (fast and
wide) 20 Mb, 9Mb, 2x4Mb
and 128 Mb RAM and a 3c905b 100 network card.
I was pretty satisfied with the transfer times (we had NT earlier) at
almost 2 Mb a sec.
Then I read about someone transfering 500 Mb in a minute.

I think the transfer rate of your hardisks are limiting the thruput.
Does this mean ALL of them (would a fast disk for SWAP help?
Should not 128 Mb Ram catche the first 50 Meg or so?
Do you have a switched network?
yes
How is your Linux box connected to your clients?

can this be done?

Is there a mailing list covering what one can do with Linux in a desktop
publishing situation.?
Linux is great for automation, so much work can be saved here (?)
Is anyone working with OPI servers on Linux?

I have successfylly set up papd.conf with an Epson 3000

I have a (Harlequin) RIP running on NT which generates a log file.
This logfile logs "everything" including missing fonts, postscript errors.
I use smbmount to mount the share with the RIP, and I grep for errors

Our Harlequin rip has a DCS folder wich picks up DCS pictures.
The DCS folder is on a Linux box.
This can be used as an OPI system:
The problem is:
Certain characters in postscript are "wrong" , and the RIP can not find the
files.
German and Scandinavian characters becomes things like !"#$%&/()
