what about serializing using *concat(old.f1,'|||',old.f2,'|||',old.f3)
('|||' = any separator that works for you)*
and deserialize inside the function?
does this make any sense to you?

Nothing at all is written to the error log.
But if I start it with mysqld_safe it comes up and works fine.
Anyone know what could be going on here?
