MySQL on OpenBSD 2.8

I guess I've lurked long enough. I am a relative newbie to MySQL (and to all things SQL, actually.) I am running MySQL 3.23.37 on my OpenBSD 2.8 server. (I currently support 6 different, non-related databases on the server) Here is the problem... MySQL seems to open too many threads and die.
