Alrite guys.
I added log=/tmp/logfile in /etc/my.cnf and removed "log = FILE,
TABLE". Now it is logging each query.

I created the my.cnf file (for some reason, it was nowhere to be found) and
passed it as an argument to mysqld_safe . That's it! Works beautifully
now.

3.23 which does not supports this Update syntax...

i think this isnt a purely mysql specific question but surely related. I
have a stick bit set on the /tmp directory(Solaris) where the socket file
resides.But there is no protection on the file because ppl apart from the
owner of the file can delete the file..
