which gets cumbersome with 20+ files. There's a good alternative
(attaching files from within mutt), but I was wondering if anyone has
solved this before. Any clever shell scripts to add the -a option for
each of the filenames?

which would require globbing from within mutt. If getopt makes the
first option hard to implement, that last one might not be so bad
after all. I think it's less likely to violate the principle of least
surprise.

each message in the folder is automatically parsed as a
muttrc file. Something like that.

Thank you, that's just what I needed. I wasn't aware of that
capability, it allows to deal with messages just as with regular
attachments. Nice!

in .bashrc is probably not going to work, as this is not
read by your login environment (e.g. gdm + xsession).
Perhaps it's an idea to put this on the mutt wiki page.
