IMAP: marking messages for deletion

I am using mutt 1.2.5i (or look at the headers of this message:-) with an IMAP server. I have noticed that when I mark messages for deletion the operation only happens locally. There is not delete command sent to the IMAP server. Is there an option to turn this behaviour on? I did not see one.
