I was mistaken. I just tested several email addresses,
so I believe the problem is just with the gmx.net
domain. This is my output from the host-t mx command:
$ host -t mx gmx.net
gmx.net mail is handled (pri=10) by mx0.gmx.de
gmx.net mail is handled (pri=10) by mx0.gmx.net
