clean up, fix, and document the patch. Also, for working to rebase the
patch on top of the mut

Is there a possibility to merge mutt sidebar patches [0] ? I maintain
a locally up to date version against latest mutt repo on Github[1].
Would be really nice to have this functionality upstream.
