Great-tailed Grackle reported earlier was present.
We stopped at the entrance of the Sleepy Eye recycling
area which is on the north side of the sewage ponds,

Minneapolis bird walk through Black Dog Fen last night
and there were at least seven different American

border of MN in Vernon County WI. Has anyone down
south gone out looking for them on the MN side of the
river? If there is this many in Wisconsin, there

I was able to locate the nest cavity of the
Prothonotary Warbler reported at Ft. Snelling State
Park. The cavity is not where it was originally
reported or there is more than one pair nesting in the

I was driving by Lake Harriet and saw Chet with his spotting scope setup. I
stopped and asked what he was looking at. When he told I jumped out of the car
and ran over for look. The bird was in the middle of lake so a scope is needed.

I took the day off to run up to Wisconsin Point to meet Mike Hendrickson and
find some jaegers. I arrived at 9:45 to find Al Schumacher and friends viewing
the Long-tailed Jaeger. I got brief glimpses then the bird departed. Al
decided to be the sacrificial lamb and departed to search park po

I have had an Ovenbird in the yard since the beginning of September. It can fly
partially, but appears to have some sort of wing injury.

July 2, 2012, as we drove through Fairfax, MN @ 6:45PM I saw a single Eurasian
Collared-Dove in the middle of town on the side of the road. The bird flew off
to the south edge of town. This is the first one I have seen in this area.

I saw one Eurasian Collared-Dove in the town of Kandiyohi, Kandiyohi County, MN
this past weekend. The bird was seen at the northern outskirts of the town of
Kandiyohi on the east side of Kandiyohi County Road 8 (85th St NE) drinking
water in small pond. It took flight and headed back into tow

feeding in the leaf litter by the canoe racks. Jim Williams showed up as I was
leaving and I showed him where it was hanging out. He was photographing the

There were a few people with dogs that were letting them run in the water. If
anyone sees the Little Blue Heron today I would appreciate a note.
I was able to photograph this young Pileated Woodpecker which was not a bad
consolation prize:

The bird was present from 2:30-4PM. It spent time south of the park and all
along the shoreline in front of the park.
I started talking with a sheriff and lost sight of it. I will look a little
more then probably head out.
I will post a picture when I get home.

Interesting observation Shawn.
You might find this paper from "The Condor" interesting since it deals with
prey selection by Northern Hawk-Owl. Of note is the reference to a Northern
Hawk-Owl taking a Spruce Grouse as a prey item.
