For the past several years a pair of common ravens have nested on our property
near Cook, MN. On Feb 15 I first noticed one of them carrying a small branch
into the black spruce/ tamarack swamp where they have nested in the past. All
nests have been in mature black spruce trees and that is whe
I just saw three swans in flight near Cook in St. Louis county. They did not
vocalize. They were flying over the Rice River near where I live. The river

rapids. This is the earliest I have seen them here. There is
It was a cold day up here. I think our high was 11 degrees with a good breeze.
I spotted both of these species in the middle of the day and both were very
busy searching for food. Both birds were males and found quite close
together. Location was along Johnson Rd. approx 7.5 miles east of
I returned to the site today at mid day. Walked along the road as well as back

brought to my attention by a friend that I was off on the mileage by quite a

There is a short-eared owl hunting the semi open area just north of the Cook
WTP`s. I just left and it had perched up on a sign post along the east side of
the Ralph Rd just 100 yards north of the entrance into the WTP`s area. The
post is just 50 ft or so off the road.

If anyone has the know how to quickly correct this please let me know.

It looks like at least some Pine Grosbeaks are heading back north. We have had
