Been too busy to bird much these last few months but sometimes the birds
just land right in front of you.
After parking (at 117th and Jefferson) and catching up on some cell phone
calls, I exited my car this morning and noticed a single, sparrow like bird
on the asphalt in front of me. It
During a trip today I saw a pair of them between Renville and Sacred Heart
at about 6:30pm. The exact location is on the NE corner of 200th and 820th.
200th is a N-S one mile East of Cty 12. 820th is one mile S. of Hwy 212.
I saw one flying and the white on the wings caught my eye. At first I

The thrush was seen at the NW corner of Prior & Howell at about 12:30p on
the 1st. The bird is in the back yard, as their are several fruit trees and
spruces nearby for cover. A good spot. It was very cooperative after a wait
of 20 minutes or so, loafing in the second tree from the street. A rob

Red-winged Blackbirds, among other year-round residents.
Near Lake Josephine, I found a Blackpoll warbler and Northern Waterthrush,

field on the Sod Farm on the West side of Goodhue Ave. (Goodhue / Rice
County line) just South of 90th St. with about a dozen Killdeer and a few
semipalmated sandpipers.

There were two very cooperative & photogenic Ruddy Ducks and a Beaver!
I also stopped at Cliff Fen park about 7:30pm to look for Woodcock but did

Thanks Diana for this report. I re-found them this evening on the grassy
area east of East Nokomis Parkway between 54th and 55th St.
The two birds were keeping close together and were occasionally being
harassed by a few of the 100+ Canada Geese they were feeding amongst.

This morning I heard a Robin singing his territorial song in my backyard.
That's a sure sign of spring for me.
A Cardinal has been doing so for weeks, but he was singing this winter when
it was 20 below too so I thought that was kind of crazy.

Earlier in the day at Big Rivers Regional Trail the highlights were a
Pileated Woodpecker (FOY) and watching a mature Bald Eagle catch dinner and
then dine.

Merlin we saw hanging around. We managed to see
that eat a dragon fly earlier.
Keep a lookout and see if they are re-found and confirmed or re-identified
before the Merlin gets his fill.

Yesterday evening, I noticed several chimney swifts over pickerel lake,
which straddles Southern Ramsey and Northern Dakota Counties.
I thought this was quite late in the year for them.

couple of Bald Eagles near the river too. Saw one RTHA in a stoop - as we
whizzed by it disappeared into the snow, developing a high level of momentum
to break through the very crusty snow no doubt.
