The pelicans are flying in to the west part of Lake Vadnais. There were well
over 100 and more coming in all the time. There are still a lot of cormorants
and we saw 7 trumpeter swans along the north end of the smaller west lake. We
did not see the loons today but saw quite a few great blue hero
small handful of yellow
warblers.

The numbers of trumpeter swans on Lake Vadnais are increasing -- there were 8
there today. Only about 8-10 cormorants remain, 1 pied-billed grebe, 2 wood
ducks, and 30 or so mallards. There was nothing at all on Lake Gervais.

We saw a Townsend Solitaire at Lake Vadnais this morning. The bird was in the
trees along the Vadnais side of the road just before the long line of junipers
on the left side of the road past the end of the smaller west lake.
There were still the large numbers of ring-necks but we saw no gol

There was a single Red-Necked Grebe on the smaller west lake around 11:00
a.m. today. We got good views from the road that runs between the lakes, it
was just beyond the sharp curve to the right (by the huge cottonwood). Saw
a single loon and not much else but the grebe was a day brightener!

Pelican numbers have really been increasing, today there were 30 to 40 in
several areas on the west (smaller) lake. There have been a lot of wood
ducks on both lakes and the usual numbers of great blue herons, egrets, and
cormorants. There don't seem to be as many mallards as other years and the

I was very surprised to find a Sora at Lake Vadnais this morning. It was
working the rocks along the shore about a half mile from the north end just
before the line of junipers.
There were a lot of Eastern Kingbirds and a few warblers, saw just one
Baltimore Oriole and one catbird.

wonder, though, how a domestic goose shows up in the middle of a city;-)

Last evening and again tonight we had a bald female cardinal in the yard.

We saw 6 to 8 possible tundra swans today in a flooded field far from the
roads at MN Highway 95 and 80th St. in Dakota County. It was a long ways

Before the rain this morning there were 16 great blue herons and a few

There were 13 trumpeter swans on Lake Vadnais this morning.

heading north-northeast. There are still the 10 Trumpeter Swans on the
western part of Vadnais. There were only 4 great blue herons around the
lake today, and about 15-20 cormorants.
