Last weekend at my home in Mendota Heights a broad-winged hawk hunted from a
fence post at one end of my garden as I ran a rototiller to prepare for
planting. He/she was oblivious to my presence eventually permitting me to
capture several nice images. Sunday afternoon she perched in an oak over
I'm always happy to see my first Broad-winged Hawk of the year. Saw a beauty
today in our neighborhood.

window. I first made the ID a few days ago when the hawk was poorly visible
in the tree and I couldn't make out enough of its field marks to
differentiate between it and an immature Cooper's Hawk, which also nest in
