zoran driver on a different acrchitecture than Intel

I can get the zr36067 loaded by specifying the card=5, but
anytime I attempt to use lavrec, under a variety of quality settings ( q
80 through q 20) I get timeouts:
lavrec -i n -a 0 -d 2 test.avi
I get the following:
**ERROR: [lavrec] Error syncing on a buffer: Timer expired
**ERROR: [lavrec] Err
