Hello, Did anyone ever write you back about this?  I couldn't find a reply on the mailing list.  I wish I could help you, but all I can say is, I see this frequently on my digital cable TV.  It may be a known hard problem with MPEG encoding in general.  I'd like to know what to do to solve it too.

Hi - A number of movies I've encoded look good as long as the pictures do not get too dark - but night scenes or the transitions that involved fading to and from black do not look very good (looks a bit like the game of Life being played on the TV screen).
