Replying to myself from mjpeg-users.
The below problem is fixed with the current version of mpeg2dec (non-mjpeg).
Any chance of the fix being ported over? or YUV being added as to the
mpeg2dec distr4ibution? Is this something I can do myself (how far
apart are the codebases)?

I made a MPEG2-ES file with mpeg2enc. You can download it here (about

When I watch the video in Xine I can clearly see five frames (the fried
eggs are labeled 501,502,503,504,505) But when I decode the frames with
mpeg2dec I only
Thanks for the info, after some googling I found out that Matrox uses
the dmb1 string for their hardware decoder. I found the first instance
of that in the file at about hex 70 and changed it with hexedit to MJPG,
and it works now.

I have done some test now.
1st setup: kernel 2.4.21-SuSE, bttv 0.9.x:
The stripes almost disappeared. I could only see them in still pictures. The
color is between blue and turqoise (instead of white as before).
2nd setup: kernel 2.6.5:
No stripes.
