A recent upgrade from a Sept 01 to Oct 08 snap disabled one of two NICs
on a Supermicro H8DA8/H8DAR AMD64 system. Rolling back to the Sept 1
kernel resolved the problem.
Specifically:
*There are two onboard NICs, bge0 and bge1, both assigned static
addresses, and bge0 fails to operate.

This machine experienced lockup on bge0 interface yesterday, the same
interface which failed two weeks ago with earlier snapshot.
Yesterday's failure was different in that the link status was stable
(active), and it was possible to capture packets. However interface
became unbound to its static
