suspends the system. It seems to suspend to RAM since it only takes a
second or two. The system reports that the webcam/video, usb, and scsibus

This command does nothing.. xlock doesn't run after 5 seconds, or minutes:
xidle -program "/usr/X11R6/bin/xlock" -timeout 5
unless I put my mouse cursor in the NW corner.

I am running apmd without arguments from rc.conf. I am also running lid
close suspend from sysctl.conf. When I close the lid, and open it again,
apmd is gone from 'ps auxw'.
In /etc/apm/suspend I am hitting xidle with a signal 30. xidle is sparking
xlock with a -startCmd apm -C, and an -en
Sometimes apmd crashes from a system suspend, and sometimes it does not.
Sometimes xidle runs xlock, and sometimes it does not.
Sometimes xlock asks for a password, and sometimes it does not.
Can anyone tell me whether they have all of these working consistently and
reliably?

Thanks for replying. My problems with xidle turned out to be mostly caused
by a paused Mplayer, which disabled the screensaver. I also ended up doing
xset dpms 0 0 0 to allow xlock control over it.

The acpiac(4) man page mentions that the AC power source status can be
monitored by sensorsd(8), but sensorsd(8) does not monitor this sensor as
far as I know. apmd(8) does however.

The acpitz(4) man page mentions that the system will power down if this
critical temperature is reached. I assume this temperature is retrieved
from BIOS, but I do not have an option in BIOS setup for it.

Another idea I forgot to mention is to use syslog, and pipe to scripts.
This would pretty much solve any issues with temperature and battery
monitoring... run every syslog of sensorsd and apmd through a script, and
forget using sensorsd for event commands.
It didn't occur to me to set up sensorsd(8) this way, although it makes
perfect sense now. This would also work well for battery monitoring.
