Thanks a lot for the help. However I had to slightly correct your recipe
below. So, for future reference for poor souls such as myself :
$ env CFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib ./configure
$ vi Makefile
to change the line with LIBS = -lcurl to :
LIBS
