I was struggling to get NUT working a few weeks ago. After some time
battling with errors, I discovered that my UPS was recognised by
sensorsd and I didn't actually need NUT. The data isn't quite as rich as
NUT provides, but for me it was sufficient.

how to set it up.
When it comes down to my UPS (same "usbhid-ups" driver) I had to:
# printf 'disable upd\nquit\n' | config -e -o /bsd-upd /bsd
It might be necesary to disable uhid too, but I didn't need that so
